Try this spicy Raw banana fry / Vazhakkai Varuval (in Tamil) which I learnt from mom. We can also deep fry the raw banana slices and add it to the masala for variation.
It is usually served as a accompaniment for rice with sambar, rasam or curd.

Raw banana - 3 to 4
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Oil - 2 to 3 tbsp
Fennel seeds - 1 tsp
Garlic - 4 to 5
Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
Red chilli powder - ¾ to 1 tsp
Salt - to taste
Directions:
Peel the raw banana skin and cut into slices. Place it in water to avoid browning.
You can also add 3 to 4 small onions while grinding coconut.

Recipe for Plantain Fry / Vazhakkai Varuval
Recipe type: Veg accompaniment

Serves: 3 to 4 approximately
Ingredients:
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Oil - 2 to 3 tbsp
To Grind:
Coconut (grated) - 3 tbspFennel seeds - 1 tsp
Garlic - 4 to 5
Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
Red chilli powder - ¾ to 1 tsp
Salt - to taste
Directions:
Add grated coconut, fennel seeds, garlic, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt in a mixie jar.
Grind it into fine paste by adding water. Keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan, add curry leaves. Once it splutters, add the grounded paste; sauté this for a minute.
Add the raw banana slices, mix it well.
Just sprinkle water and close the pan with the lid; allow to cook in low flame.
In between check whether it is cooked. Open the lid, Mix it carefully without breaking the pieces.
Once it gets roasted, remove from the flame.

Note:
Adjust the spice level according to your taste.
You can try the same recipe using yam, sweet potato.
I tried this. It gets mushy. Jst sprinkling d water is enough to cook.
