Rava (Semoilna / Sooji) Pongal

Rava pongal  is simple and easy to prepare South Indian breakfast variety.  It is easily digestable than the usual pongal with rice. Try this!

Ingredients

Semolina/rava/sooji -1 cup
Moong dhal -  ½ cup
Curry leaves- 1 sprig
Cashew nuts - 8 to 10 pieces (broken into small pieces)
Black pepper -1tsp
Cumin seeds -1 tea spoon
Ginger - 2 tea spoon (finely chopped)
Green chilli – 1 (finely chopped)
Water - 5 cups

Oil -1 table spoon
Ghee – 2 to 3 tsp
Salt - to taste

Directions

Wash and pressure cook the dhal with 1 ½ cups of water along with salt and turmeric powder until soft. Keep aside.

Take another pan and add oil as well as ghee.  Temper with cumin seeds, pepper, curry leaves, chopped ginger, chopped green chilies and cashew nuts. After it is done add rava.

Roast the rava till you get the aroma and the colour changes to slight golden.

While roasting rava, start to boil the remaining water and salt in a separate pan.

After the rava is roasted add cooked dhal, ghee and hot water to the rava mixture stirring continuously to avoid lumps.

Mix till it reaches upma like consistency.

Serve hot with Coconut chutney and Sambar.
