Coconut Thuvaiyal is a spicy South Indian chutney made of lentils and coconut as a good accompaniment for rice. This chutney is thick in consistency and can be made in many variations such as Urad Dhal, Toor Dhal, etc; here I have used Channa Dhal.
Ingredients:
Coconut -1 cup
Channa dhal - 2 tbsp
Tamarind - a small piece
Red chillies - 3 to 4 (adjust according to your spice level)
Hing - a small piece
Salt - to taste
Water - to grind
Directions:
Dry roast channa dal in a pan for a couple of minutes over medium heat till it turns golden brown in colour.
Grind the roasted dal and the remaining ingredients in a blender to a thick paste. Add water if necessary (just sprinkle water and grind). Transfer to a bowl (no need to temper)
Thuwaiyal is now ready to serve with variety rice, rasam sadam or simply mixed with steamed rice & little ghee.
